The Scars of History

Beirutica 250 x 142 cm

Inspired by the epic anti-war painting Guernica by Picasso, depicting portraits of women, mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives who despite the despair and the loss continue to be restless and standing to fight another day. These portraits personify Beirut as a strong, restless, unbeatable female, who despite the many falls, continues to rise and stand strong again. It’s an accumulation of pain from a history of conflicts and destruction and an image of the spirit of the people of Beirut. It’s a message of hope and resilience and a shout for peace.
